Manny Burchfield-Cosgrove

On December 1, 2016, Manny walked right into our lives.  He had been born in September and was brought over to play with his siblings by his mother on our balcony and wanted in from that moment on..  He wasn't going to take no for an answer.  When his opportunity came, Manny took full advantage of it.  On the night he came, he waited by the front door and slipped in unnoticed.  Manny walked around the house like he owned the place, surveying his new universe.   He promptly made himself comfortable on the sofa blanket and gave himself a full bath.  We had a new cat, we didn't have a choice.

We affectionately nicknamed him Shrimp Shady, due to his small size and since his arrival was a bit on the sneaky side.  Manny was joined by his brother Jack, who rough housed and tumbled around the house until his untimely passing in April 2017.  Manny loved his toys, especially the laser light and Princess Leia Mouse, and would fetch her and expect to be played with nightly.  When he wasn't chasing the light down the hall, he was wrestling with his older brother Osk, or the two of them would terrorize the other members of the house.

Manny was ever the watchman, keeping an eye out when we came home, and taking us down the stairs to work.  He also had a propensity for perching on high ledges, sills, and bannisters, much to the chagrin of his daddies.

Manny was an affectionate, fun, loyal companion during his short 2 1/2 years.  He passed at home unexpectedly on Monday, April 29, 2019 after a rapid decline due to an undiagnosed cancer.  We will miss the sunshine he brought into our lives.
